can't connect to outlook
« on: June 25, 2010, 12:25:10 PM »
hi there,

in demo-mode of both filemaker pro 11 and outlook manipulator, am investigating wether a mail system with on-the-fly distribution lists can be made.
after successful registration of the manipulator, i can NOT pass step 2: connecting to outlook.
i get messages that connection fails and that i have to start outlook and preference it as primary email client.
unfortunately not the right information, because outlook IS the preferred mail client and IS already open.

some help?

thanks

Can you please attach a screen shot of this exact error as it appears in our Demo file I have not encountered that error before when authenticating? Does this error occur in both the Beginner and Advanced demo? Have you tried a fresh start by quitting Outlook and FileMaker completely and ensuring that the Outlook and FileMaker processes in the Task Manager have been terminated as sometimes the Outlook process can hang open?

Please also include your machine specs in your reply specifically as OS version, Outlook version and plug-in version.

Hi there,
Thanks for reacting.
Here answers to your questions:

Screen captures in attached files.
I only use Beginners demo (as I am a beginner).
I tried fresh restarts, even restarting computer.
OS: Windows XP Professional edition Service pack 3.
Outlook 2003 as part of Office Professional 2003
Manipulator 4.0.1.17
Filemaker Pro 11 in demo mode.

Thanks for any help!

Great and thanks for the screen shots. Can you please open the Advanced Demo and let me know the results? Please also include the screen shots of any errors received from Authenticating using the Advanced Demo.

hi there,
even in the advanced mode, i get the same warning: 'outlook is not the preferred email account'...

questions:
filemaker pro is in dutch language, can that be of influence?
on the system where we try to do this experiment, there are 2 email clients installed:
* outlook xpress
* outlook office 2003
can this also disturb the authentication?

hope to here from you soon!

greetings: hans pollen

The dutch language should not cause this error. What could be the problem is that Outlook Express could be the default email client. Our plug-in does not work with Outlook Express, but rather only the full version of Outlook (Outlook 2003 or 2007).

Can you please disable or remove Outlook Express from your machine, ensure that you have a profile configured in Outlook 2003, attempt to re-authenticate and let me know your results?

Can you please confirm your Outlook default client on your machine? Please do the following:

1) Navigate to Control Panel > Internet Options.
2) Select the Programs tab and look to see what is listed as your Email client. If "Microsoft Office Outlook" is not listed, then please select this option as shown in the attached screen shot.
3) Restart FileMaker and Outlook and try to re-authenticate.

Hi,

I'm having the the same problem with the plugin that Hans was having.

I've tried it both in the beginning and advanced demos, it registers and when I attempt to Authenticate it fails.

Machine Specs:
Core i7 1.73 Ghz
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional
Outlook 2010
FMPA 11.0v2
Plugin version 5.0.0.1

I've tried restarting both outlook/filemaker as well as the computer itself.

Outlook is set as the default program for E-Mail etc.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Matt Spencer

If the outlook is not connected then check the internet wire as many time if the network is not connected properly then it may happen that the outlook is not connected. But if there is a software problem then I think you will again have to install the software and work on it. I think it will surely solve your problem.
