Title: QODBC
Post by: sbenschwartz on January 19, 2010, 11:11:21 AM
We are a QB Enterprise user and we have purchased FileMaker Pro 10.  Could you please explain the differences between QODBC and FM Books Connector.  Thank you.

I do not claim to be an expert, but have used both products, so here goes...

QODBC is an ODBC driver for QuickBooks and uses standard (sort of) SQL queries to interact with QuickBooks.

FMBooks is an XML generator that works with the QuickBooks SDK to produce similar results.

If you're already an SQL query wiz, QODBC has an excellent website with tons of useful information. If you're an SQL newbie, the learning curve can be steep and painful. My last experience is over 2 years old, but the technology's not changed much I'll bet.

Having used both, I must give the nod to FMBooks for performance and (relative) ease of use.
